I suspect that it got broke for us when Kai Tietz
revamped it substancially last year.

I'm checking in a patch to fix this issue. I'm confident that
windres now works, since it passed all the 53 tests in the testsuite with
flying colors, after I enabled the testing (grrrr).
If you run into trouble, please send me a buildable mini project
I can test.
