Hello everyone,

I am conducting research for the CE Workgroup of the Linux
Foundation regarding the reasons that Linux kernel developers
do NOT submit their changes upstream. The intended
participants for this survey are developers who have modified
the Linux kernel, but who, for one reason or another, have not
submitted their change(s) to the mainline or upstream kernel tree.

This research is part of an effort to more officially quantify the
obstacles (or perception of obstacles), that developers have with
regard to contributing to the Linux kernel. It is hoped that this
information will help inform continuing efforts to help remove
those obstacles, and lower the barriers to participating in the
Linux kernel development community.

The survey should take about 10 to 15 minutes. I would be very
pleased if everyone who receives this e-mail can take the survey.
I hope to present the results at a talk I am giving at the upcoming
Embedded Linux Conference Europe.

I know that the reach of this e-mail is limited to those subscribed to
this e-mail list. Please forward this to other kernel developers
in your organization, and encourage them to take the survey
as well.

Here is the URL for the survey:

The following command may be helpful for finding
e-mail addresses of kernel developers in your organization:
(do this on internal trees, to find the e-mails for developers
who may not have commits in mainline!)
Replace <company.com> with a search expression that
will match e-mail addresses for your organization.

$ git log --author=<company.com> --format="%ae" | sort | uniq

Please take the survey by October 6.

Thanks!
