Give me a break, am I not north of the border? 35C, why that's 95F, that's

not a great forecast for today. Lets get some of that Arctic air blowing

south eh ! Did I tell 'ya I like February?

Woke up early again and ended up in the City of Prescott Cemetery on Edward

Street, 1 block from Tim's at 8:30am. Dead quiet.........HHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM

!

This "Root Cellar" looks neat and well kept, but, it has a bit of an unusual

look to it. It, and the surrounding area is pretty much flat. But right in

the middle of this "human dump" is a long narrow hill, with tombstones on

top and along the sides. Just looked out of place. One big lump.

Margaret Norton wife of Charles Willard born Feb. 26, 1815 at Denmark, New

York died Dec 19, 1892

Charles Willard born Aug 19, 1807 at Battleborough, Vermont died Feb 5, 1886

This guy got the "belt" when he was born...........................Sacred to

the memory of John Belt who departed this life 1867 aged 74.

Aahhhhhhh pew, now what stinks? Sacred to the memory of Jessie E. Pew who

died Aug 28, 1878 aged 42 years.

in the 32nd year of his age

"Peace, is the Lord Jehovah's hand that holds our joy, and in death changes

this image once so dear and gathers back the breath to him who gave it."

In loving memory of Lieut. John H. Davy, 14th Batt. C.E.F., son of F.J. and

E. J. Davy killed in action near Amiens, France Aug 6, 1916 aged 29 years-

buried in Crucifix Corners Cemetery

In loving memory of our hero Cecil J. Bovaird Lieut. of the 109th Regt.

killed in action while serving in France with the 46th Howitzer Battery

C.F.A.G.E.F. in the fight for Arleux May 3, 1917 in the 24th year of his

age, buried in aux Rietz Cemetery, France.

On top of the lump of this "dead real estate" are mostly veterans of

Jessup's Rangers and family.

To the memory of Elizabeth Rebecca, wife of the late Maj. Edward Jessup

(Jessup's Rangers) died April 21, 1867 aged 60 years.

Now here is the top historical figure for this "Open air museum." Maj.

Edward Jessup of Jessup's Rangers fame, died Feb 3, 1815 or Feb 4, 1815(I

guess the stone cutter wasn't sure?) Just a note here, above the Majors wife

has a humongus obelisk and guess her fame comes from the fact she was the

Majors wife. The Major himself gets a normal size unpretentious stone, very

humble...................................

Sarah, the beloved wife of Thomas Friseur, Esq. who departed this life on

the morning of the 28th of March 1859, in the 61st year of her age.

"Having spent upwards of 36 years of her life as a devoted and

affectionet(<affectionate) wife, and 28 of them a useful and honoured member

of the Wesleyan Methodist Church."

Half an hour after I started searching this "Boneyard" I see a cemetery

worker cutting grass. We wave to each other occasionally as we get closer.

Finally he is close enough to talk and turns off the riding mower.

Interesting story. He is 28 years old and he is the head guy for this

cemetery and very proud of it. His father did the same before him inheriting

it from his father. He told me what he knew about the history here and

areas, especially on the lump that there are no records remaining for who's

buried up there, that don't show above ground. But, that's typical. Then he

told me about the lump. One side, ground level with the rest of the area is

beautiful grass, well manicured and I figured for future plantings. Nope.

"Why that used to be the city dump, not allowed to dig more than 6 inches

there, so that would be for cremations only." Ahhhhh Sooooo The lump, used

to be the dump. There's some treasured space the city gave up for their

beloved dead.

I did notice in this "Silent City" a very nice, never seen before way of

putting back together broken head stones. He uses an aluminum frame which

really works well and is unobtrusive. Apparently it was his fathers design

and other cemeteries should take a lesson here. Its great in appearance and

cant say enough good about it.

Then towards the end of our conversation, he wanted my opinion of HIS

cemetery, as I said he was very proud of it. I gave him a 9+ out of a

possible 10. Very well kept, cut and trimmed and very well repaired.

Walked half a mile in here and probably talked to the care taker 45 minutes,

we just pulled up a stone and

sat........................LOL....................................... gee he

talks a lot..........................

About 1 mile away, still on Edward Street North, I come to St. Mark's

Cemetery, Prescott.

Guess who I find first..................Anthony LeClair 1891-1963 and wife

Belva C. Davidson 1897-1991

Gee, could anyone be interested in the next name?

Capt. Prudent Boivin 1886-1969 and his wife Laura Duchesne 1891-1946

Liza McGrath died April 20, 1880 aged 49 years

"Jesus has called the mother home

Her flesh is mouldering(<moldering) in the tomb

God grant her offspring may be blessed

And meet her in eternal rest"

About 5 "Major" burials in here also, one of which is.......................

Luke Major 1837-1915 and wife Mary Riley 1837-1917

Dennis Coughlin drowned at Pembroke Lake Nov 24, 1869 age 29 years, (his

mother and father)

This is interesting................

William Corstock Hutchison, Private Chamberlin to Pope Pius IX and Knight of

the Holy Sepulcher died April 28, 1914 age 71 years

Hot, hot, hot and getting hotter......................................I

walked 2/10ths of a mile here.

Heading down Route 2 now, heading towards Maitland I come to the Blue Church

Cemetery.

Sacred to the memory of Sarah Breakenridge born April 2, 1798 and died May

7, 1858 aged 65 years, 1 month and 5 days

" A faithful wife, a loving parent, an affectionate friend, a true

Christian.

Her surviving children unite in erecting this tablet to the memory of a

Mother of Israel"

I was kind of shocked to find the next item. Never thought I'd see one

outside of New England area and I photographed it. The very typical old

stone which I found 100s of in Massachusetts in the spring, which shows the

face with wings, same as New England..........

In memory of Mr. Amos Wright who died July 18, 1796 in the 36th year of his

age

"Very pleasant hast thou been unto me my brother."

Would have been nice to know if Old Amos was a New England native??????????

Sacred to the memory of Daniel McKenzie Esq. who departed this life on the

4th day of May A.D. 1832 aged 63 years cousin on Sir Alexander Mackenzie and

who was with him at discovery of Mackenzie River in 1789."(Note the

different spelling of the last name)

Barbara Heck born 1734 died Aug 17, 1804

"Barbara Heck put her brave soul against the rugged possibility of the

future and under Cob brought into existence American and Canadian Methodism.

And between these her memory will ever form a most hallowed link."(she had a

huge monument with a brass relief of her likeness. I'd like to know what

"Cob" refers to??)

John W. Young died Oct 25, 1913 aged 38 years

"Be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man

cometh."

In memory of the Honorable William Henry Browse A. M. M.D. Senator born

June 15, 1824 and died Aug 23, 1881

Heres an odd first name.......Nesfield Ward died March 14, 1901 aged 78

years

This was a neat, clean, very well kept "Buried Treasure Yard" and walked

6/10ths of a mile here.

Continuing down Route 2, I pass the "Bill Fleming Park" :) on my way to

Maitland.

St. James Anglican Church and burial ground on Church Street in Maitland

established 1826, "Anglican Loyalists."

To the memory of Charles Carvey who departed this life 4 Oct. 1818 aged 20

years and 17 days, erected by his youthful companions in respect to the

uprightness and many amiable qualities which he displayed through life."

In memory of Helen Augusta Dumbrille who died Dec 6, 1860 aged 21 years

"Her sun went down, while it was yet day."

Annabella De Wolfe-Lane-Scamell died Oct 16, 1856

"Believed the dim unknown

Standeth God within the shadow

Keeping watch above his own."

William Lummax died Jan 14, 1894 aged 49 years

"Sleep brother dear

And take your rest

God called you home

He thought it best."

I'm beat and soaked, end of day 3. I walked 3/10ths mile in St.

James..............Headed back to Kingston............................

Best

Bill..................but wait....................there's more. Only if you

don't mind reading something gross...............you've been

warned....................that's why I saved this for the very end.........

Going back to the Prescott City Cemetery and the young caretaker there. I

had asked him, if anything strange or odd ever happened in HIS cemetery?

Figuring I'd get an odd burial story or maybe a ghost story? He

thought.........."Yeah, human sh_t" I looked at him and laughed and didn't

even know what he was talking about. For the purpose of this additional

story, I'll just call it poop. He said, " I came in one morning figuring I'd

trim around the stones on the South side of the cemetery where I had mowed

the day before. I was trimming along and there it was, a pile of human poop.

" Course, I had to ask the obvious, "How did you know it was human poop?"

He

said, "there was a big pile of used toilet paper right next to it." After he

and I both stopped laughing and wiping away the tears, I asked, "How do you

figure that stunt?" He said, "The high school is across the street." More

laughing...............he said "You want to see which stone?" I said, "No

thank you, it wasn't part of the historical information that I was compiling

in my little note book." Even though someone had compiled the

poop............ He said it wasn't funny at the time, as he had to clean it

up, but he gets a laugh out of it now.

Gee, I cant wait to run into the next cemetery caretaker, to ask the same

question.............LOL
