7/30/2009, 8:25:19 AM Out the motel room door at 8:36am. A quick stop at Tims for breakfast and I'm off. 8:58am brings me to Hillcrest Cemetery at Smith Falls, Ontario on Rt 43. Fred Ted McLean 1890-1956 (P) (<Lois alert) wife Laura Prosser 1900-1925. I now have a hawk dive bombing me. Sure sign there are little hawks around but I couldn't find a one. This thing was coming so low I was swinging my cane at it. This kept up non stop only while I was in that particular area of the cemetery.And screeching at me when it flew over.................... Charles Yellen 1888-1975 (< I could have used him to do some yellen' at the hawk.................) Irene M.E. Deadman 1916-1998. (P) Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ! Betty F. Twiggs 1912-2000. Karolina Piller died Nov 3, 1973. Samuel Earl McCrum 1874-1951. G. Arthur Tweedy 1914-2003. Louise Cake 1903-1971 (P) (< Yeah, I know, if she knew I was coming she would have baked a ...............) Frederick J. Catchpole 1898-1961. Seeing I'm in Canada, on this cemetery trip it makes me think of a famous Canadian burial, 4 times. Yep, this famous Canadian was buried, dug up, buried, dug up, buried, dug up and finally buried for the 4th time as you can see his tomb today. It was not Tim Horton as many of you may have guessed, it was General Isaac Brock. He wasn't sure if he was coming or going....................... He was first buried at Fort George, Niagara Peninsula (During the War of 1812). Then he was moved to Queenston Heights when they finished building his monument in 1824. Then in 1840 , the monument was blown up by an Irish Dissident(< 'ya know how those Irish dissidents are............). So after the explosion General Brock was moved to a private burial ground in Queenston. But in 1856 the present monument for General Brock was finished and so he was dug up for the last time and reburied at his new monument/the one you can see today. Hastie 1929-2008. William T. Allen Mus. Doc. Born at Ripley, Derbyshire, England Jan 15, 1861 and died April 26, 1901. Lancelot Bell 1911-1988 (P). Minnie E. Frizelle died Oct 5, 1906 age 35 years. Robert Cairnduff Born at Cariduff, Ireland died Oct 14, 1901 age 84 years. Ogle Carss Born June 7, 1846 and died Sept 19, 1925. Catherine Fergusson wife of Duncan McNab Born at Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland Nov 15, 1785 and died Aug 28, 1874 aged 88 years 2 months and 13 days. Abel Russell Ward Born at Massachusetts 1796 and died Jan 6, 1882. Valmer i. Fleming 1896-1967. Victoria Major 1897-1980 (< Joyce alert) Betsy Powis 1872-1960. Stopped here at a flowering bush taking some photos of dragon flies. Odd, they have little maple leafs on their wings.............. Portugese Born July 26, 1928 and died _____________ (P). (< Was she Swiss???????) Elin S. Olson Born at Iceland 1901 and died 1979.(< who's doing Iceland?????) Ron Burrows Hurricane Born June 27, 1948 and died July 17, 2008 (P).(< who's doing bad storms???????) Mary Irene Leclair Born Jan 17, 1920 and died Aug 9, 2004 (P).(< Jack alert) Stephen Smith 1869-1958 (P) (<Mark alert). Walked 7.1 miles in this "Permanently Hushed Homestead" and vacated at 3:37pm and its 82F/28C. 3:41pm brings me to St Johns Anglican Cemetery, established 1850 on Mazzie St. Smith Falls, Ontario. Hannah Wincey 1875-1950. Ann E. Virtue 1853-1940. Margaret Hoops 1789-1859 (P). Howard McLean Born Feb 19, 1875 and died June 19, 1957 (P) (< LOIS alert) wife Cornelia N. Conlin Born March 25, 1874 and died Feb. 16, 1960 & Harold McLean Born Jan 21, 1900 and died June 25, 1924 & Clarence McLean Born May 22, 1918 and died Aug 28, 1918. "Beneath this stone lies Johnnie Scott Who lived like a fool and died like a sot But its needless to argue Whether he was so or not He as a man was despised And will soon be forgot." Harriet Niblock 1862-1916. Walked 1.1 miles in this "Tranquility Acres" at 84F/C29C and vacated at 4:30pm. Back to the motel at 5:40pm. Another great day with the dead.
