About the bones found in cemeteries etc.Been finding them for years. Most times
I push them back into the wood chuck hole. Sometimes I bag them and try and
give them to Cemetery caretakers when possible. I carry a few plastic bags in
the car just for this purpose. And no, it doesn't bother me in the least bit
about handling them. They been dead long enough and in the ground. If it was
recent burial, I'd call a cop.....................But back , starting in the
mid 60's I worked in a Museum and we were constantly going out on digs. Mostly
farmers would call and say they had opened up a Native American burial ground
of some sort. They usually said, you have till next weekend to remove them, or
I plow them under. Planting couldn't be held up.So we would respond quickly and
I was on many digs. The most usual dig that I was on, we uncovered a Native
Chief/Medicine Man. But the unanswered question was, he had what was left of a
Bison head over his head. They weren't in New York State. So it proved trade
with far Western tribes. They sure didn't mail order it.............Also, I got
stopped digging real fast as the head guy yelled stop. Don't touch anything.
Uncovered was a very black patch of what looked like black earth. Turned out to
be the remains of gun powder that was located by the Natives side, the pouch
was gone, but it was possible it could still be active power, he lit it for a
flare up and then we continued. I believe this was about 400 year old burial.
And that Native was lying down, but as I remember , all the rest were in an
upright squatting position.I got to clean him after getting him back to the
museum. Over a week or so got him clean. Only used water and a tooth brush,
then Elmers glue to put such things as his teeth back in the jaw and skull as
part of his skull was broken and got that back together also. When I was done he
was a very nice clean Native...................... Keep your Natives
clean..............LOLThat was fun and interesting work, while I was in High
School. I even took one to school one time for a history class. Couple girls
got ill.......................LOLAll have since been given back to the
appropriate tribes for their own re-burial on their Sacred Grounds and
originally saved from the Farmers plow............. BestBill
