.
Hi Folks
As I've been asked concerning the Cemetery Reports and how they are put
together etc.
I started going to cemeteries when I was 16, for two reasons, back in 1966 when
I started my genealogy, of course, I found most of the people I'm researching
were dead. Thus cemetery research. But, also, I got my 1st car in 1966, I found
cemeteries were a great place for parking., at night that is. But back to
genealogy............I also found out there was much more to cemeteries then
just the dead. As I worked in a Museum for 4 years, I guess I got a much better
understanding of old things and the past then most.Course the main thing was
the dead, but, also the architecture, there are some of the most fantastic
stone cravings to be found in cemeteries. The dates, birth, death, sometimes
where they came from, when they married, what they did, what killed them and
Epitaphs. Great and interesting info.
Nature, yep, that's free in cemeteries also, the best of that is way out
cemeteries away from sound.................ever hear quiet? Cant imagine it,
can you? In some cemeteries its so quiet, its loud. These dead people, don't
argue, they listen real well, don't say much, so far. And very accommodating as
when I'm ready to flop ,their headstones make great seats. Also from time to
time I drop in on them, not intentionally, nor invited, I think. Its old hat to
fall into a grave over 100 years old. I have broken their bones in the course
of the fall, and apologized. Never a harsh word from them as it wasn't on
purpose. They also never moved as I took pictures of them while down there. And
they all smell the same. Musty, dirt type air. I have broken canes falling in ,
in the past. I get a few bruises at times and dirty. But, look at it this way,
they haven't had a visitor in over 100
years..................................There is an abundance of flower
arrangements in larger well kept cemeteries, rich cemeteries, one example
Niagara Falls, Ontario, City Cemetery, one of the best for flowers,
unbelievable. Then you have all sorts of birds. Example, ever see baby hawks? I
have and have the photos of the babies feeding on a carcass provided my mommy
hawk sitting in the tree above them, more then likely keeping an eye on me.
They could only hop up to the top of the nearest headstone.Deer by the hundreds
and as close as 2 feet or a bunch of metrics.....................LOL Ever play
with a baby deer? I have in a cemetery. Ever feed a wild deer, I have in
cemeteries.Ever pick up a baby red fox in  cemetery? I have., while the mother
ran away. So, to say the least, you have all sorts of wild life while your
looking for the dead.Oh, and so far, cemeteries are free and open to the
public. (< God only knows how long that will stay like that, as very little is
free anymore).  I can see it in the future, buying tickets to get in by the
hour or an all day pass.............Argggggggg You get free exercise, walking
all over and up and down hills etc. Its free sweat..........I'm always soaked
this time of year. Other places you pay for this exercise.
When I started writing these Cemetery Reports well over 20 years ago, they were
very short and not informative as they are today. Some only a short paragraph
or two. But people started asking questions, how much do you walk? How far away
did you go? Whats the Temp? Location? Requesting photos and info. So that's
kind of how they developed. All the 20 years + of Cemetery Reports are in the
list Archives. Now I try and advertise where I'm going in advance as you may be
looking for someones burial where I'm heading. Doesn't cost me anything to
look, so I've found many requests over the years. Many other things go on in
cemeteries that I've noticed over the years.
I am guessing, adult, cheating , parking area on lunch hours. I find it hard to
believe people meet on lunch hours in cemeteries if they are married to one
another. Most likely married to someone else. Then they also play games in
cemeteries. Hiding things, that have to be found. And, another is drug drops
and pick ups.
Funerals of course but the military ones are especially noticeable, taps and
the gun fire.Picnics by assume families/friends, maybe a death date or birthday
of the deceased. To mention a few.But the cemeteries are like above ground
museums to me.So, there are some of the reasons how they came about and
developed into what they are today.I have fun in cemeteries, but with respect
to the dead. You should see my headstone   :)
Just remember, the word FUNERAL, the same letters also spell. REAL FUN !
Best Bill    any questions?
