Every politician and public figure in the U.S. must publicly declare
that they believe in prayer - in God, apple pie and football.
Otherwise, they might just as well stay home and clip coupons.
 
As far as MLK, Jr. is concerned, he was after all a Protestant Minister.
 
The important consideration is what we individually think.  If you
believe prayer works for you, go ahead and pray. 80 million Filipinos
who pray everyday and whose prayers are not answered may no longer
believe as you do and may in fact be praying or mouthing words out of
habit.
 
My hope as a member of CRGP is that we will some day realize that prayer
is not an instrument for social change.  Filipinos must stop praying and
concentrate on just doing the legal and moral and just simply do the
right things.  Since God is already perfect and immutable, as Louie F
has reminded us, He doesn't need our prayers.  Thirty trillion prayers
said simultaneously will have no effect on Him.  What we have to do is
to take steps that will lead to a cleaner government, more honest
governance and a better life for the people of the Philippines.
 
Among Ed does not spend all his days praying at his office in the
Pampanga Governor's mansion.  He is out in the streets doing the work he
was elected to do.
