There are some workarounds. You could install thunderbird 68.8.0
directly from thunderbird.net, or get a better integrated installation
from flathub.org. You could log into your CentOS 6 box from CentOS 8 and
run thunderbird 68.8.0 remotely. No doubt there are others.
