Interesting that you omit the model number. Is it the
Linksys WUSB54GSC, or something close to that?

Although atheros chipsets will work with the madwifi
drivers, USB devices were not supported as late as Feb
'08. See

Most likely your toshiba makes a wifi connection via
the internal atheros device (which works with
madwifi).

I would like to see the relevant lsusb, lspci, and
modprobe.conf (alias) lines that expose how madwifi
supports your USB device.
