The 2009 California Budget Challenge is Live!
We are excited to launch an updated version of the nonpartisan
California Budget Challenge, complete with new policy options and
budget numbers. Users are presented with the same set of economic
circumstances lawmakers confronted in crafting their 2009-2010
budget package. Californians will vote on several measures related
to the budget in the May 19th special election and we have also
included a preview of how these Props will affect California in the
years to come.
Take the Challenge and decide at what level to fund education and
other important services while setting your revenue priorities.
Users decide on policy options including whether or not to raise
income taxes, restructure Proposition 13, or change parole
supervision for non-violent offenders. You can TAKE ACTION and send
your choices on to your representatives, view pro and con arguments
for each choice, and see the choices other Challenge-takers are
making.

the 2009 California Budget Challenge.
Student Contest
Attention teachers and students! With the 2009-10 budget approved,
we are asking students to tell us: HOW WOULD YOU HAVE BALANCED THE
STATE BUDGET?
Our annual student contest will run from March 31 – May 15th. Next
10 is reaching out to students of all ages to understand their
priorities for California’s budget.

Interactive Presentation of the Budget Challenge
Next 10 is continuing our efforts to take the Budget Challenge on
the road, visiting classrooms and diverse communities throughout
California. At each stop, Next 10 staff will educate and engage
audiences about the workings of California's budget and give them a
flavor for what it takes to balance the state's budget. If you

On May 1, 2009, the Asia Society Northern California and Bay Area
Council are organizing "Scaling Up: From Green Buildings to Green
Cities in the US and China" which will focus on green building
