I think there's two distinct issues here. The general term
"centrist" covers both "radical centrists" and what are sometimes
called "sensible centrists". Arlen Specter is more what I'd call a
"squishy centrist", in that he bends whichever way the wind blows. :-
P Arnold is a good example of a "sensible centrist", in that he's
pragmatic rather than ideological (arguably to a fault).

Meaning, he's working hard to to find solutions based on the best
ideas (at least in his opinion) put forth by the two parties and
reaching across the isle whenever possible? What are the ultimate
guiding principles for a Centrist Senator? How do we know when we see
on?
I like the posture of RC but I I don't seem to be able to grasp its
guiding principle(s). Help me out! :)
