Ernie: Actually, while I doubt if we are talking about tens of thousands per annum, this sort of thing goes on "all the time," viz with some regularity - with Pakistan being most notorious from what I gather.
I will also guess that this sort of episode simply cannot happen in some ( some ) parts of Pakistan, roughly the same parts where Christian evangelism is "kosher" with local populations and Hindus and Parsis still have relative freedom. At this time, however, I do not have quantified data about what kind of proportions we are talking about, whether these types of things are OK one year, not OK the next, and so forth.
