I do think that is an over-simplification. A better explanation is
that Islam is:
a) counter-cultural, for those who feel alienated from mainstream
culture
b) authoritarian, for those who come from father-abstent homes
As such, it isn't surprising that it gains traction among certain
segments of the African-American community.
I agree the bit about Christianity and slavery is at best a red herring.
