The answer to your question let em give a best guesstimate on numbers. There are between 1.2B and 1.6B Muslims world-wide. Dr Daniel Pipes has, through his research on population census come to the estimated number of true jihadusts at between 5% and 10% of the total Muslim population. Given these figures I used the lowest total population and the highest percentage, thus my estimate of 120M. Since these numbers are not the result of any concrete and dedicated polling the error rate may exceed the +or- 3%. The definition of this group I would say is fundamental Islamic. They practice Islam in its purest form, following exactly the ways and behavior of Muhammad. If Muhammad married a girl of 6 and consummated the marriage when she reached 9, then that's what they will do. If Muhammad preached that Jews and Christians be killed if they do not convert to Islam, they will practice that as well. Muhammad is called "al-insan al-kamil" which translates to "the perfect man" and thus, by the standards of Islam Muslims must do what the perfect man has done. Some call these followers of the Qur'an a "tiny minority of extremists" or militants or insurgents, also radicals. Maybe you have even heard them referred to as misunderstanders of Islam. I just call them jihadists as that is how they define themselves. It is vitally important to remember that not all Muslims are terrorists.... ...But all(virtually) terrorists are Muslim.
