As someone who has given a bad rap to geeks in the past, and while I like the diagram, there does seem to be something missing. Don't get me wrong. The illustration is a real service to struggling humanity. But the thought has struck --which explains my previous ire at "geeks"-- that the word has different meanings. Maybe what we need in addition to a diagram is a dictionary of tech-related jargon. Sorta like then world "aristocratic." Depending on how you use the term it can be either a high compliment or a gross insult Let's say that there are ( to simplify ) helpful geeks and know-it-all geeks. In the years since my first views of the subject I have had dealings with far more helpful geeks than otherwise I must retract my early overgeneralization with apologies to the world's "good geeks." Alas, the criticism still applies to the geek class identified with the geekocracy which was my first experience, leaving a bad impression. Some geeks do look down on us hoi polloi and make us feel like idiots because we aren't all Einsteins. We aren't worth their time, is their attitude, and we ought to all crawl in a hole and die. Somehow I wasn't too impressed with that attitude. For what my humble opinion may be worth Billy PS I think we also need two definitions of nerd, since we at Centroids are well-rounded as nerds, we aren't like a lot of other ( effete ) nerds Some of us, maybe most of us, are rugged individualist nerds, or no worse than well-adjusted as nerds. These kinds of distinctions do make a difference. BTW, I am gratified that he word "dork" is still in common currency these days. It was waaaaay back in the 50s, the tail end of that decade, that the term was a neologism, with approximately the same meaning. Good that it isn't necessary to need to learn new idiom.
