Ernie: Yeah, "precipitously" is the exact word. The end came suddenly, in the space of a few weeks. Rather incredible to think about it. Approximately 18 months of reliability, or some approximation of reliability, then a rapid slide into absurdity. Directly related to advanced age, not incidentally, since the founder is in his 90s. Looked at from one angle he was heroic. If I make it to my 90s and still am active "in the world," seeking to make a difference, well, that would be pretty damned good. Few others have done anything remotely like that ---Drucker being one of that small number. But with Orval you could see it coming, the only question being "when will he fall apart ?" Not "if" he would. Still, when it happened and the way it did was unfortunate. I was one of three of us who had worked to see the Forum evolve into a first rate free speech group, and we had accomplished some pretty good things, all of which is now moot. Except for the experiences and the lessons we can put to use down the road. Well, I learned a lot, Pacifica served some personal purposes quite well, but now it is time to move on.
