I don't get it - is the author saying these people are lying, and they really knew there was a crisis ahead but deliberately ignored it, to their own detriment? Or that there were people inside who warned about the problem but were ignored? If so, why didn't they bet against them and get rich (like a very few did)? The real tragedy (again) is that this tragedy was foreseen, but by a very few iconoclasts operating outside the mainstream of both finance and academia. There's no good way to blame people for not listening to "crackpots" - especially when you didn't listen to them either!
