Admittedly BP was run irresponsibly --clearly not always, but
in the oil business
even a "few" issues are too many. And granted that BP needs to
pay for the mess
it is responsible for, but the way the WH is "crucifying" the
company is anything
but wisdom.
As an expert on TV said today, BHO's big speech from the Oval
Office was called for
a month ago. The response has been half-baked from the get go.
Worse, the admin
seems to be close to 100% punitive towards the company, and this
I don't like at all.
65% would be about right, even somewhat more, but official
policy has been
excessive. My humble opinion anyway, especially since no-one
around Obama
seems to have thought through the politics of WH reaction.
Or the economic impact beyond the costs of the spill itself.
After all, besides
everything else, 40% of BP investors are American citizens.
The Left is also ticked off, and for good reason. And in this
case ( which is often enough
true on economic issues ) I agree with Leftist criticism. No
way we aren't going to
have a petroleum-based industry, etc, for at least the next 25
years, or even half century,
but it is high time for national mobilization to switch to
alternative fuels. Even Carter
had that much right --despite his archetypal incompetence.
Where is an alternative energy program ? "Cap and trade ?"
That is some kind of joke.
There isn't any. Everything else is seen as more important.
Hell, I am as pixxed off
at BHO arguing from the Left as I am about social values issues
arguing
from the Right.
