Currently only TCP is supported, so IP over IB is probably your best bet. Native IB support in the message passing layer is certainly possible, and I've been keeping half an eye on Oracle's RDS (which has similar semantics to Ceph's message passing), but I don't know offhand how difficult it would be to get that working.
