There's a FAQ entry on the wiki. The gist of it is.... no, ceph is not quite 
ready for production.

It has made huge strides in the last months, but still has some features and 
testing left to do. Actually, most people could probably deal with it feature 
wise right now in the right circumstances. It lacks some security features and 
a few other things but most people could probably work around that.

The biggest thing is testing to make sure recovery and data integrity works as 
expected. The last thing you want is a filesystem that can't hold data.

I think 2 developers are working on it. I don't know about the time frame. 
Maybe the devs know better.
