Fall back, on what? el8 that is end of life not?

In the time you need to fix something in ceph-deploy, or wait for answers here,
you could have done a manual install. ;)

Hi Marc,

1. It's a nonsense to deploy a new infrastructure based on outdated OS; if RockyOS 9 is available it's worth to deploy on this OS and not on the older one, also if it's not an EOL product; yes if we are compelled to deploy on an old OS we fallback to an old product;

2. ceph distribute packages for RockyOS 9; these packages has missing dependencies (python-pecan) that is unavailable for RockyOS 9; so follows my questions:

- How RockyOS maintainers ported python under rel 9? Partially? Or maybe this package can be found on another repo ?

- How ceph maintainer tested the ceph RHEL 9 release if the ceph-mgr cannot be installed due to a missing dependency?

3. When installing ceph manager I get this result:

---------------------

yum install -y ceph-mgr
Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 9 - Next - x86_64 1.2 MB/s | 1.4 MB 00:01
Error:
Problem: package ceph-mgr-2:17.2.5-0.el9.x86_64 requires ceph-mgr-modules-core = 2:17.2.5-0.el9, but none of the providers can be installed
- conflicting requests
- nothing provides python3-pecan needed by ceph-mgr-modules-core-2:17.2.5-0.el9.noarch (try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages or '--nobest' to use not only best candidate packages)

--------------------

Maybe you can help to solve this issue that has been filed by me on the ceph redmine? (https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/58321)

Hope to get a constructive answer.

Francesco
