Para Pecinta Fiksi yang kreatif, semoga berita tentang perfiksian yang diambil dari Harian The Jakarta Globe ini bermanfaat (versi web, silakan klik di alamat yg tercantum di bawah artikel) : November 17, 2008 Dalih Sembiring Fiction Turned to Fact at FiXiMix The house on Jalan Desa Putra in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, is as small as the others around it. The blue outer walls are painted with large comic images of human and animal faces. Plastic-coated orange lettering stuck above the open front door says “Discount up to 50%.”
Passersby might think FiXiMix is just a bookstore or library. From the street, you can see hundreds of books stacked on shelves or piled neatly on tables and on the carpeted floor. But FiXiMix is not just about books. It’s the place where founder Henny Purnama Sari and her friends have taken small steps toward realizing their big dreams. “I used to dream of having a big, bright library as a fun zone, a center for entertainment where people not only read but also watch films, play games and do other things,” Henny said. In pursuit of the dream, Henny, the author of the novel “69: Berkubang Liang” (69: Wallowing in the Pit), opened FiXiMix in April 2007 in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, moving it to a rented house in Jagakarsa at the end of that year. As a library, FiXiMix provides membership for Rp 50,000 ($5.10) per year, and its members range from high school students to businesspeople. Open daily until 9 p.m., FiXiMix has also become a favorite spot for young children in the neighborhood to hang out without having to spend a single penny. The first floor is set up as a cozy place to read, while the second floor is available as a space to hold discussions, watch films or play electronic games. “We’ve made FiXiMix a place strictly for fiction,” Henny said. Initially, only books were available. But the organizers quickly realized fiction was available in a wide range of media, not only books, but also films, photos and graphic design. This is the reason FiXiMix not only holds discussions, workshops and art performances, but also experiments with various other forms of fiction. One of FiXiMix’s most successful programs is called My First Fiction. “We run it every now and then,” Henny said. “We invite writers, new and established, to talk about their experiences in producing their first published piece of fiction.” Past participants include actress Happy Salma and singer Trie Utami, who spoke about their first published stories. Aspiring writers gain information on how to make their works publishable and get insight into the book publishing industry. “We also run a scriptwriting class, which started in November 2007. The one we are holding now is the sixth,” Henny said. Supported by a writers group, the Indonesian Society of Fiction Lovers, FiXiMix has embraced more than 130 writers as members. Sitting on its board of advisers are Dwi Koendoro Brotoatmodjo, a senior illustrator who created the characters in the “Panji Koming” comic strip, and Aristides Katoppo, editor in chief of the Sinar Harapan daily newspaper. FiXiMix recently held an event exploring local culture in films. It featured, among other participants, film directors John De Rantau and Garin Nugroho in discussions about fictional heroes and the distribution of independent films through local TV stations. FiXiMix also invited the public to send in their own ideas for fictional local heroes as part of the two-day film workshop.
