The CEZOBAL will hold its annual award show at the Cresta hotel on Saturday Dec 13 2008 in Lilongwe.
The award show will also feature a dinner dance, launching of the CEZOBAL 2009 strategic plan, launching of the www.malawibasketball.com website. The final list of recipients and categories was devised at an executive meeting held on Monday 24 Nov at Zion youth Centre in Lilongwe. The awards are intended to appreciate and honour efforts of individuals and teams who excelled in the game as well as outside the game in making sure that the game was played. The awards are divided into diffrent categories and honour different skills and efforts in our game. Each recipient will walk away with a CEZOBAL certificate of appreciation, a medal and some categories have cash attached to them. The following are categories that will be awarded after team captains have voted and chosen their recipients: 1)Most Valuable player ***To be decided by team captains during the car wash on Sunday 2)Most Valuable Player - Ladies ***To be decided by team captains during the car wash on Sunday 3)CEZOBAL 2008 upcoming player **To be decided by team captains during the car wash on Sunday ** the following are honorary categories that the executive gave out at its discretion **** 4)CEZOBAL 2008 Team of the Year * Mimbulu -this award is automatic to the team that wins the A-league each year 5)CEZOBAL 2008 Ladies Team of the year * Lady Dynamites 6)CEZOBAL 2008 Disciplined team * Trojans 7)CEZOBAL 2008 Youth DEvelopment Award *Dan Khomba - this award appreciates individuals efforts in getting the grassroots basketball organized and developed in the zone. Dan was instrumental in getting secondary schools organized to play basketball and tried to re introduce the juniors League 8)CEZOBAL 2008 League Catalyst award * Christopher "Kawale" Ngoma and Chipo Sichale (bambino secondary student)*This award goes to people who did the ground work for the league or games to happen, the people who got their hands dirty and helped in the "donkey work" of the league in 2008. Kawale was always there for on behalf of the executive to run on errands, Chipo (she never plyaed games but was there to help both leagues with games) was very dedicated to the game as she always helped with the scoresheets during those sunny days at the court without any cover. These 2 individuals were our servant leaders in 2008 9)CEZOBAL 2008 Umpire/Referee award * Mabvuto Chintengo - This award goes out to referees who were there to do help with games day in day out. They showed superior skill and dedication to the game. Mabvuto showed deciation in getting games going on, did most of the games in our league with such high standards of showmanship 10)2008 Mile stone Sports Award * Taonga Nundwe - This award goes out to individuals who were showed strong leadership skills in their teams through organisation and dedication to the game. Taonga was very dedicated to the team of veterans in the season, he was their beacon and a milestone for their success in the season. 11)James Gwaza Award ** To be Determined * - this award will handed out to individuals who have contributed to the game of basketball in much the same way as the late James did. The recipient will be chosen by the Gwaza family and friends. On behalf of the executive, i would like to take this time and congratulate all those individuals who will be awarded on Dec 13.
