BASMAL to Commemorate Independence Day with International Basketball Game
Blantyre – In commemoration of Independence Day, the Malawi National Basketball
Team will on Tuesday, July 7 from 4:00 p.m. play the Mozambique Select Team at
African Bible College Macon Gymnasium in a friendly international that has not
been sanctioned by FIBA.

A squad of 21 players went into camp for the international game on Monday June
29 from which Coach Zitto Phillips will select a final 15.  The team will be
led on the court by Captain Hope Chisamanga.  Bob Kandulu is Team Manager while
Blair Phiri is trainer.

A 16 member Mozambican team arrives in the country on Saturday, July 4 for the
game. Mozambique were unable to send their first team to Malawi due to an
earlier commitment to participate in the Portuguese-Speaking Community Games,
scheduled for July 11 to 19 in Portugal.

Malawi were the losing side last they met the Mozambique first team two years
ago in the FIBA Zone Six African Championship qualifiers. Mozambique are ranked
number two after Angola in the FIBA Zone Six.
