I find this a humorous discussion at this point.  This is like saying the XFL and 
Arena Football will overtake the NFL.

Folks,  Until this products or languages show better flexibility,  better security,  
better session and client management, better interaction with COM and Data Storage 
they will not be something to worry about.


I agree that Java will be further integrated,  but as most of us have seen the 
overhead in both ASP and JSP pages have made CF a more logical choice for the end user 
and Server Admins alike.

Strictly speaking, ASP and CF are both application servers, while PHP is a 
scripting language per se.

It really doesn't do the same thing, but there is a lot of equivalent 
functionality. CF, though, makes for a more disciplined environment.

I think it has a future and the future is Java or some such. I fully expect 
a synthesis of CF and Allaire Java tools into a successor environment. PHP, 
Python, and the like will be supporting, but important, players in that 
environment.

For me, the really interesting open source initiative is Zope (a 
Python-based app server). If that matures in a timely fashion it could give 
ASP and CF fits.
