One reason: Profitability.
When, or if Cold Fusion Server sales will become a profitable venture for
the company developing and marketing the CF platform is the topic of much
speculation. In fact, tens of millions of dollars have been lost by
investors who so speculated.
Macromedia, IMO, would be much more likely to pull the plug on a
non-profitable product. Allaire was betting the house on Cold Fusion - they
had no choice. Could it be JRun was the real reason Macromedia scooped up
Allaire? They're getting the company pretty cheaply. I think that's
another reason people worry that sometime in the future they'd consider
dropping CF.
We all just have to see how this plays out. Everything right now is pure
speculation. Allaire obviosly had great plans for new products in the near
future. I see no reason to believe any of these plans will change because
of the acquisition.
