I certainly find that if I have a large file (as well as it taking me 10
minutes to find any particular piece of functionality) I tend to have
similar pieces of functionality repeated - modularizing it (a la fusebox)
makes it easier to avoid unnecessary duplication, easier to debug and
maintain, and means that if someone else has to work on it at a later date,
they stand a higher chance of working out what on earth you did to start
with...

It's also a general programming principle that larger files are harder to
maintain and debug; once it gets to a
certain size, it probably is starting to have too much functionality in one
place, with too much interrelated code,
and would benefit from being broken down into smaller pieces that each do a
certain part. Doesn't necessarily have
to be that small, just as long as it's easier to read and maintain.
