Gary,
I share those concerns, as do many others at Macromedia (have to get used to
saying that).
And while no formal plans have been announced yet, and I am unable to tell
you exactly what products will live, merge, evolve, or anything else, one
thing I can tell you quite emphatically - the professional code based
editing that is the hallmark of CF Studio will not be abandoned. You will
still be able to write code the way you do now, you'll not be forced to use
GUI tools (unless you want to) - they'll be a GUI view of the world, and a
code-centric view of the world, and the only thing that'll be different is
that both will be even better than they are now. (And based on what I am
seeing and hearing, we've got lots to look forwards to).
Oh, and this is post CF5 of course. CF Studio 5 will be based on the current
CF Studio.

Subject: Fate of CF Studio
I am growing increasingly distressed (ok, a bit dramatic) at the possible
future of Studio with the Macromedia acquisition. At first I was slow to
pick up studio, not being a bonafide programmer. Now, I can't imagine
working without it and all of the features. Anyhow, just wanted to get that
off my chest. We are buying UltraDev to test, I just hope that IF the two
are fully integrated, that the new product would retain all of the features
that have made CF Studio so useful.
BTW - My MS spellchecker could not find bonafide. Definition: in good faith;
without fraud or deceit. Now, I wonder why that word is not in the MS
dictionary? ;)
