*big grin*
I thought you would like it
heh heh heh
I just had the absolutely harrowing experience of using Cold Fusion String
Find and Replace functions to normalise data given to us by a "Financial
Institution" I can say no more about the institution..
But the fields in question were Defendant and Plaintiff.... ;-)
with commas, last names mixed with firstnames, ampersands and spaces...and I
had to break it all out into
Company, Last Name, First Name....
and then create a new table to put the remaining names, since some records
had more than one defendant all lumped nicely into one big defendant field.
*shudders*
*rubs eyebrows*
I used CF instead of VB or something because I figured its list processing
functions and looping was a lot stronger than using multiple instr()
statements to determine if the defendant was a company (Had
LTD,ltd,Limited,Co,CO. etc in it).
It worked out pretty well...and it cleared up most of the data.
Now we just have to hope they pay attention to the clause in the work
contract which states that we aren't resposniblse for incorrect data and
that they have to manually check and verify these records and correct where
necessary.
Lawwsuits and scape goats..
lawsuits and scapegoats in the moo-ooorniinggg..
^_^
I need coffee..then a carib..
actually I think I shall go down to the pub and get a coffee AND a carib!
*moseys on off with the muffin still sitting on the desk*
;-P
