Ya had to bring up PETA! ;) You all realize that I work for an angler
and hunter's association....

Vegetarian - Aboriginal term for bad hunter

Low carb diets...hmmm...as a former personal trainer, powerlifter and
track athlete I can't say I fully support them. It appears they work,
but at what cost? The uric acid from too much protein sources can
wreak havoc on your kidneys. I do believe that avoiding extremely
complex carbs, especially breads and wheat products can be beneficial.
But not because of the type of nutrient in them, I think the gluten
just really bungs up the villi in your intestines decreasing proper
absorption of nutrients. Same with milk, which by the way, is a bodily
fluid like urine. Ewwww..... Milk is for babies anyway. ;)

The average muscle is composed of 17% protein and the rest is pretty
much water and glycogen (made form carbs). So why should protein in
your diet exceed about 17% of your caloric intake? (Oversimplified
argument I know, but the essence is there.)

The total caloric intake daily versus your basal metabolic rate
(calories needed to live) is ultimately what will determine if you
lose or gain weight. Knowing that, we can either choose to increase
our metabolic rate (exercise) or decrease or caloric intake (diet).
Usually a combination of the two is most efficacious.

I believe this thread is really relevant to programmers as we can
sometimes be a sedentary bunch. Unless there's a really good foosball
or ultimate frisbee game going on. ;)

By the way, what's up with bridge being a demo-sport at the next
Olympics?
