That's pretty much how I describe my work. Yes, I have an art degree...now,
my code is my art. As clean and simple as possible - although I'm not a
minimalist.
At the university where I got my degree had no cross-over for fine arts -
graphic design. I fought with the system for over a year before I conceded
the battle. I lost. So, I did the next best thing. I went to the college
bookstores and bought myself a copy of their textbooks. Still have them
too. ;o) Figured if I couldn't get into any of their classes, at least I
could use their texts and study on my own. Now, I'm glad that I have a Fine
Arts degree....at least I don't have to think in the formulaic manner they
taught.
Question everything. Just because something's been done one way for an
interminable amount of time, doesn't mean it's the best way, non? ;o)
Sharon DiOrio put into words:
>I did a lot of photography. My major was actually in graphic arts. Talk
>about being the red-headed stepchild of the art school. :-/
>
>I agree that writing beautiful code is an art form in itself. Too bad it's
>only a select group of people who truly appreciate the simple beauty of it.
