weather is what you get." (Or, as Robin Williams put it, "Whoa, reality,
what a concept!" -- although the idea of mixing Robin Williams and reality
in the same sentence is pushing it a bit. Didja know Robin Williams lives
in the S.F. area?)
You may not know this, but Twain also lived in Virginia City, Nevada
(outside Reno) during the time of the Comstock Lode silver mining boom -- he
ran the newspaper there and personally helped keep a number of bars from
failing <g>.
Twain also said "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San
Francisco". After having grown up there, 1/2 mile from the beach, I know
exactly what he meant: headlights and windshield wipers all summer from
the fog... Thought it was hilarious going to the tourist areas and seeing
them in white shoes, white shorts, and blue skin with goosebumps, shivering.
They never listened to Tony Bennett either when he sang "the morning fog may
chill the air". I was once down near Fisherman's Wharf in August, wearing a
ski parka, and somebody the approximate color of Blue Man Group asked me
where I got the warm jacket. I replied "last ski season". He said "you
mean now?" ha ha.
