I won't laugh -- I didn't know either until I went to a Renfaire!

A "black and tan" is a drink with Guinness Stout (black) and Bass Ale (light
brown).
Poured carefully, you end up with one floated on top of the other, with 2
distinct colors.
But it's been a while, and I'm completely sober, so I forget which color is
on top <grin>.
