Here's a situation that always seems so odd to me. Company's always expect,
and in their own ways demand 2 weeks notice when we quit, yet they trust us
so little that they give us 5 minute notice, most of the time Monday or
Friday night. We get escorted out and have to pack in a hurry.
My last employer was a perfect example of screwing employees once they've
given notice. A friend and I both gave notice, advanced notice 45 days,
because we had projects to wrap up and were looking for work. At first the
CIO was all goody goody about us leaving and such, then we start getting
black balled. new projects start in which we are specifically requested to
help in the design phase, while we're here (the design phase was done before
we left) and the CIO said nope, they're not included anymore. so for 45 days
we tinkered on our projects, and once done just sat around all day long...
It was such a waste of resources.
I just thought I'd share my thoughts on the whole two week notice thing.

I would pull your friend aside and let him know. If he is truly your friend,
