Just get a cheapo Linux box and set up NAT and IP Masquerading. ICQ will
still work just fine, and no one will be able to connect directly to any
port on your machine. They hit the Linux box and pretty much don't have
anywhere to go from there.

| You might remember that while I was living in my best friend's house I
| wasn't able to send files to you through ICQ and I had serious issues even
| getting messages out. I think we both had to send through the server to
| talk to each other. That was a firewall issue and that firewall was set up

| but I couldn't connect directly to any linux or BSD users. ICQ is a mess.
|
| If I remember correctly, ICQ uses ranges of ports for each action and
| selects randomly from that range of ports for each time that you do
| something. That makes it almost impossible to predict which port will be
| used to send messages. In order to allow free use of ICQ, you may as well
| open every port in the firewall, which sorta defeats the purpose of having
| a firewall in the first place. It's one of the most problematic pieces of
| software to use through a firewall. But we love it anyway.
