Image Ready can do whatever Fireworks can do, and can do it much better in my opinion.
THe ability to effect animation and state changes simply by turning layers on and off
is very powerful, couple this with
tight integration witht he best graphics editing tool out there, Adobe Photoshop, and
it is a combination that can't be beat.

just use MM's fireworks.
it just referances the change up over & down state & swithes out the images
using javascript.
very simple to use design tool.
