We had CCTV installed on the beach front here, ostensibly to look for crime.
Infact, three council employees were sacked because they were caught on
camera talking to their freinds when they should have been working.

Mc******* have cameras installed at their counters.....watching their
employees.

There was another company in the UK who secretly filmed their employees.

Personally, and maybe this errs on the side of paranoia, I am VERY
suspicious of the proliferation of CCTV, for several reasons, one of the
most relevant being:

Do they do any good?

There is a strong argument for suggesting that CCTV just moves crime to
non-CCTV areas, and doesn't stop it. The only way around this is to ensure
that you have 100% CCTV coverage, not something most people would like the
idea of.

I heard about this once before, it was a Company in Belfast got camera's
installed in their
premises so that they could watch their employees. But thats not what they
told them.

They were up front and told them about the cameras for security reasons.
Fact of the matter was, it was a way for the company to sack people they
wanted to get rid of.

If thats not bad enough employees were pulled up for office conduct and time
away from desk etc...

Heres another one, we develop GSM GPS monitoring solutions, a trucking
company came forward to us and wanted to test our products as a fleet
management solution. They have about thirty
forty trucks, but only put one tracking communicator in one truck and
monitor its position on the web, the driver didn't know, turned out he was
sacked two weeks later for shagging the boss's wife.

Hey Gel,

With the latest statement regarding the cameras in the office, it sure makes
that New Job offer look good. As for electronic appliances in the workplace
- i'm a big fan of the "frozen margarita dispenser".

Steve
