Raymond,
Be careful, as you are dealing with that old equation PV = nRT, which
probably means that your coolant pressure is low. It's the same effect as
suddenly letting a lot of spray out of a pressurized spray can all at once,
and the outside gets freezing cold, then warms up a while after you stop.
If you continue to run that way, you could do permanent damage to your
compressor (the expensive part).
Even though you appear to be working now, it might be only temporary due to
the thaw. Have a certified HVAC service person perform an immediate checkup
and possible re-charge of your system. Don't operate it until he does.
