Researching ovarian cancer today has led me to the conclusion that most such deaths are due to failures of diagnosis. It so happens that a study has just come out that is of interest to all women, particularly any that have a family history of ovarian, colon or breast cancer.

It is a pretty rare cancer, and that is all anyone ever hears about it. But risks increase dramatically for women with a family history and most especially for those with a certain inherited mutation.

The study demonstrates that ovarian cancer is not as previously thought without symptoms. The symptoms are vague and are generally treated with over the counter medications, but they are definitely there.

So what I want to say here is that any woman who has these symptoms should be assertive about getting her medical provider to determine the cause of these symptoms. This assertivenes might save her life.

The symptoms will generally be caused by something other than ovarian cancer but if not... the tragic thing is that the condition is very curable if caught early. And so far it almost never is.

(off my soapbox now)
