of other people's troubles, but... anyone here remember when I was
trying to get a copy of my birth certificate from the Ontario
Registrar General's office in Thunder Bay?
They wanted plane tickets or failing that reservations on Greyhound,
who don't make resrevations. They didn't have a category for "some
friends are driving me to the border and I'm going to walk across." I
was pretty irate about the whole thing - I mean, these people are
overworked and I am willing to pay for expedited service, why waste
manpower (not to mention phone bill money) making me prove I "really"
need it? Why else would I pay for expedited service?
The whole thing was one more big reminder why I am applying for
American citizenship.
Anyway, the story turned to low comedy when, after sending me the damn
thing finally, they charged my debit card twice more for the birth
certificate, overdrawing the account both times. This was several
months later. My bank finally urged me to change the card number.
OK, so... I just got mail from the Registrar General. Are they
apologizing for the unauthorized transactions? Heheh. You silly
American people. NO!
They say I can't have a birth certificate.
Because my guarantor is an American citizen. It's really pretty pathetic.
They've already sent me a birth certificate and charged me for it
three times! They do take American citizens if need be. They did on
the birth certificate they sent me ::shakes head:: though I had to
write them up a nice little letter explaining that while there might
be another Canadian citizen in Albuquerque, I had never met him or
her....
You guys in Ontario really need to double check all your dealings with
the government up there.
