Thought I'd share something my other half wrote:

When you begin to weary, lean on me, for we are brethren;
all Americans by birth or by choice
When your hands begin to bleed, you shed my blood as well,
as others have before you for independence
When your heart begins to weigh heavy, rise up,
for I am at your side armored with pride from your trial
When the night seems at it's darkest, follow my light;
it is kindled by freedom
When you feel alone, look behind you,
for we are all there back to the first days of this country
When you cry from the pain, our tears fall with you
but will not blind us
When you are tired, take my strength and
press on where I cannot
When the anger seizes you, stand with me,
for I bear your shield of independence
When evil tries to tear you down, take my sword,
it comes from righteousness
When you cannot see, look for the flag;
it will guide your way onward
When you can do no more, rest peacefully,
you have earned it
