::nod:: I tend to follow stories on the subject. One of my
grandmother's sisters has Alzheimers too. And her brother had
Parkinson's. Let's say I am rooting for an environmental cause :) It's
possible --- I found out when I was talking to another great-aunt
recently that she did not see a doctor until she was 25. The upper
peninsula of Michigan was a pretty primitive place at the turn of the
century. And that great-uncle worked for the city of Detroit and
handled a lot of herbicides and pesticides before anyone knew how
toxic they were. I like aluminum exposure as a cause of Alzheimer's
but I think right now the status is that they just dont know.

We're actually in the process of trying to find out how to donate my
grandmother's brain to science when she dies. I kid you not. She has
Lewey Body Dementia - it's like Alzheimer's, but worse in that it also
encompasses elements of psychosis and parkinson's-like physical
symptoms. It hasn't received nearly the coverage of Alzheimer's in the
press, though. And, a lot less research has been done on it. All these
diseases of the brain are kind of fascinating to me. Of course, I'm
also interested in the research because these things tend to run in
families....
