"Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion."
Merriam-Webster OnLine, hypocrite, <http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=hypocrite&x=8&y=19>, (13 July 2004).
So, to whom are you referring as a hypocrite; the author, the hypothetical conservative and/or the hypothetical liberal, or some other entity? And why would this person be a hypocrite?
---------------

Subject: RE: What is a Liberal/Conservative?
My favorite definition of liberal/conservative:
Conservatives defend status quo programs and ideas that liberals of the past
implemented and proved to be effective. ;-)
Just remember that once upon a time; a representative, democratic government
"of the people" was a very liberal idea.
