First off, this topic is anger free. :-)
Ok, so I am getting married next June and my fiancé and I wanted to finally
get our teeth fixed now that we can somewhat afford it. Anyway, she is
getting invisalign and is all set ... or will be rather, in 8 months when
the treatment is over.
Me on the other hand, I did not fair so well during the consultation. After
reviewing my mouth and the umpteen x-rays, the orthodontist said that my
upper jaw was narrower than my lower jaw and the best way to get the desired
straightening of the teeth and proper spacing was to "crack" the upper
pallet (roof of your mouth) which would require surgery by an oral surgeon.
Then that crack would allow the space needed for braces to affectively work
and my top and bottom jaw/teeth to align up.
The thought of cracking the inside roof of my mouth makes my knees weak
quite frankly and I wish I would have gotten braces when I was younger to
avoid all this mess I am now in, but that's water under the bridge.
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone had anything like this done or knows of
anyone... and if so, could you give me some details!!! Like... how long
before you could talk or eat or how bad the pain was... in patient, out
patient, etc.. I got a lot of these answers from the Ortho's but I want to
confirm them form someone who went through it first hand! :-)
Patiently waiting to be cracked... and I just passed out. LOL
Mike
