afraid of flying, and I am of Middle-Eastern descent. I had no problems with
any sort of profiling, although I am sure that I appeared VERY nervous
getting on the plane. You mention that the behavior was suspicious "no
matter what ethnic background they are". Let me share something that
happened on my flight:
Almost the entire back of the 757 that I took from Orlando to Newark was
filled with a group of similarly-dressed people. I would say there were
between 20-30 of them between the ages of 12-20 years. Almost every one of
them was carrying a Burger King bag when they boarded. As soon as the
seatbelt light went off, many of them left their seats and congregated near
the restrooms, or near each other. They continued, throughout the flight, to
speak together, go to the lavatory together and generally speak amongst
themselves. Some were seated in areas near the front of the plane, so there
was quite a bit of traffic in the aisles as they moved back and forth.
The point? They were a New Jersey cheerleading squad. They all knew each
other and moved around to talk with each other. The flight left at 8 am and
they had picked up breakfast at Burger King while waiting to board. Should
I, by your logic, have been suspicious of their actions? I wasn't, because
they were mostly white females. But "if the terrorists can train 19 men to
fly planes, couldn't they find some white girls to be terrorists?"
Do you see the fallacy of logic?
