I don't have any problem about cultural heritage, diversity and all that for I'm a strange "beast" myself :) However, I do believe all Americans should share at least some core commonality, the English language is a start. And it's also simply stupid for anyone not to try to master the dominating language of the land if he or she wants to get ahead, just my humble opinion.
Having said that, let me also add, it would be a great service if a given community helps those who want to learn English.
