I just bought a radeon 9600 yesterday, upgrading from 9000. i play at the
exact same settings as you and seem to be right around 30 fps.

I have an Athlon XP 2400+ which is also 2 ghz, but the bus is alot slower
and 1gb ram.

I was in a battle with 3 imps (at least I think that's what they were) last
night and everything seemed okay. could not look at the fps at that time
because I was too busy trying to kill the fuckers that were slashing me.
those things are way fast.

you know what else creeps me out? is the guys who are walking around on the
ceiling shooting at me. I look around as I am taking damage and cant see
anything, then I realize the bastards above me shooting me. that is freakin
spooky.

Subject: Upgraded Graphics Card..Doom III rocks :)

So,

I'm now able to play Doom III at 1024 x 768 at High Detail settings. My
average seems to be 30fps, Doom III is capped at 60FPS.
Moving to a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card was enough to give me this
higher resolution, at High Detail.

I also improved my 3dMark 2003 benchmark score 2.3 times, going from
2,596 to about 6,096 by changing the card.
This is on an Athlon 64 3200 processor.

Office XP, strangely enough, required a 'Reactivation' , it popped a
message saying that I had made drastic system changes. I stuck in the CD
and all was fine though, but its something to be wary of when changing
graphics cards apparently. I never thought a simple switch like a
graphics card would trigger that.

Anyways, just wanted to share the joy hee hee ^_^
I think this will be my system config for the next six months or so.
I'll wait until the next generation of cards, the follow ups to these
X800 and the Nvidia 6800s comes out and then buy an X800 , which should
be good for the next year or so.

I'm really happy with the system performance now with this new card :)
