and IMO (FWIW), that's the way it should be.

I'm registered independent because I can't blindly say I'm Republican or
Democrat.  I can't toe (tow?) the party line and blindly vote for (or
support) whoever happens to be running on "my party's" ticket.

In all of the political discussion going back and forth, I see a lot of
people blindly defending bush and slamming kerry, and vice-versa.
What's amusing about it all is that the Bush supporters will condemn
Kerry for something, yet completely forgive Bush for doing something
similar.  Vice-versa to that as well.

For example:
it's ok if Bush makes "Bush-isms"...but hey, let's take a look at what
Kerry said and tear that apart because there's no excuse for it.
it's ok if Kerry makes "Kerry-isms"...but hey, let's take a look at what

In so many of the 'back and forth' debates that have raged here for the
past few months, I feel like that's the gist of it.  Mention something
about Kerry, and somebody counters with something similar about
Bush...which is fine, but that doesn't automatically absolve Kerry (and
vice-versa).

Fact of the matter is this... they're both career politicians who
specialize in spewing bullshit and telling people what they want to hear
in order to get elected (or re-elected).  Kerry lies.  Bush lies.  THEY
BOTH LIE.  Clinton lied.  Reagan lied.  THEY ALL LIE.

They -should- be jumped all over when they're caught in a lie...not
defended because of party affiliations.

But if they're caught in a lie while in office...I think they should be
voted out.  Doesn't mean the challenger isn't lying...but if we don't
vote out lying incumbents then there is no motivation for it to stop.

I'm probably just being naive as usual...
