I hear ya.
I wouldn't have considered it except it was recommended by Charlie Arehart.
I like it a lot. Firstly it's not an illegal install. Secondly, it doesn't
phone home. When you install you can choose no to activate that
functionality. Yahoo is deeply tied in with spyware companies.

I use it mostly for it's popup blocker functionality. I also like the
"search this site" function for a given text (which admittedly can be done
straight from google). I also like the option to view the cached version of
a page. Has come in handy  a number of times when a page has gone down but I
could still read it from their cache...
