It's kinda ironic, but the only reason Microsoft is the dominant
operating system in anything but the major developed world, is because
of piracy.
I think 90% of Trinidadians at least would not be able to afford, or
want to afford, the 1,500TT that Windows XP costs at retail.
I would wager that is the same in the rest of the Caribbean, and
certainly in Latin America.
So those that bought computers with a certain Windows OS on it, would
remain with that OS indefinitely.
No wonder Bill Gates told reporters with a smirk that he has no problem
with people pirating his OS for personal use, or copying it for friends.
Probably darn well has checked the figures and knows that piracy would
be the surest way to 100% monopoly.
